The Biggest Snowfall in History was in Silver Lake Colorado

The Colorado snowfall of 1921 still holds the record for the largest snowfall in the US, despite happening over 100 years ago! What happened? ·         192 cm of snow fell between April 14-15, 1921. ·         The snowfall was recorded in Silver Lake, Colorado. ·         This set the record for the most snow ever measured in a 24-hour period in the US. ·         It kept snowing! The snowfall grew to 241 cm in a 32.5-hour period.   That’s a lot of snow. Can you imagine the impact it had on the community? At that time, they did not have the same advanced snow-removal technology that we have today. To understand just how serious this snowfall was, the   average snowfall  in nearby Boulder, Colorado is between 50-70 mm per day. That’s just a fraction of the snow back in April 1921.
